Il Laboratorio del Gelato

Il Laboratorio del Gelato

Location: Lower East Side (Ludlow Street and East Houston)

What We Ordered: Ginger, Hazelnut, and Graham Cracker

Sundresses flocking the streets, endless number of cherry blossom pictures on your Instagram feed, the smell of hot garbage in the subway -- this can only mean one thing; spring is finally here and it's prime ice cream season again! We made our first stop of the season to Il Laboratorio del Gelato, a popular spot in the Lower East Side.

Wooly's

Wooly's

Location: Theater District (West 44th Street and 8th Avenue)

What We Ordered: Banana Pudding

Times Square -- home to the Naked Cowboy, the New Year's Eve Ball drop, Dave & Buster's, and now Wooly's Shaved Snow. Located in City Kitchen, a new food hall featuring some of the city's best artisanal food vendors including Dough, Luke's Lobster, and Kuro Obi (an Ippudo-owned ramen stand), this is Wooly's first non-pop-up store in the city. It's not the traditional ice cream and gelato we typically review, but after receiving a tip from one of our readers, we had to check it out.

Cones

Location: West Village (Bleeker Street b/t Morton Street and Jones Street)

What We Ordered: Dulce de Leche and Hazelnut

After a brief holiday hiatus spent travelling, spending time with family and devouring pints in our warm apartments while wearing fuzzy socks and ugly sweaters, the time has come for us to come out of hibernation and into the ice cream world again. We are delighted to be back to our ice cream eating ways, despite the frigid winter we've been having in New York. We trekked through the snow and ice to Cones, an Argentinian ice cream and gelato staple in the West Village since the mid-90s.

Fresco Gelateria

Location: East Village (2nd Avenue b/t St. Marks and E 9th Street)

What We Ordered: A la Mode and Ferrero

Having gone on several ice cream excursions in the buttoned-up Midtown area, we decided to let our hair down and made our way to the ever vibrant East Village. Although tempted to get matching tattoos and 5 shots of anything for $10 at Continental, we walked through St. Mark's Place unscathed and arrived at Fresco Gelateria, a frozen dessert oasis on 2nd Avenue.

Mia Chef Gelateria

Mia Chef Gelateria

Location: Kips Bay (3rd Avenue and E 27th Street)

What We Ordered: Cap'n Crunch and Nutella

It was a brisk 42-degree night in mid-November as we found ourselves in Midtown, mulling over post-meal plans. Naturally our first thought was, "where is the closest ice cream establishment?" We trekked down Third Avenue and found Mia Chef Gelateria. As we stepped up to the counter, our faces still defrosting from the cool air outside, we were greeted by an array of flavors including Stracciatella, Reese's Peanut Butter, and Tres Leches. After trying several samples, we finally settled on a large cup of Cap'n Crunch and Nutella.
